Best Ways To Remove Wax From Vinyl, PVC, HPL, Linoleum Floor

Here are 3 effective ways to remove wax from vinyl, PVC, laminate, lino flooring (alongside the tools and materials needed for each method). These methods can be used for all types of vinyl flooring such as peel and stick vinyl floor and homogeneous vinyl floor, you can choose the suitable one according to your actual situation:

Paper Method

You'll need:

  • Kraft paper

  • An iron or a hairdryer

  • Isopropyl alcohol

Steps to remove wax:

  • Place a piece of kraft paper on the wax. If you use a paper bag, turn it over so that the dyes are inside.

  • If you use an iron, set it to the lowest position and gently move it over the paper bag. The wax will melt and be absorbed by the paper. If there is a lot of wax, turn the paper to a clean area if necessary.

  • If you use a hairdryer, hold it a few centimeters from the paper and move it slowly over the area. The wax will melt and be absorbed by the paper.

  • Once you have removed the maximum wax with the paper, use a plastic scraper (a plastic spoon works well) to gently scrape off the rest of the softened wax.

  • If there is a stain on the stain, put a small amount of isopropylic alcohol on a cloth and rub the stain. Rotate the cloth on a clean area while the dye is transferred to it.

Scraper Method

You'll need:

  • A hairdryer

  • A plastic scraper, or an old credit card, or a plastic spoon

  • Isopropyl alcohol

Steps to remove wax:

  • Use a hairdryer to soften the wax. Hold it a few inches from the wax (not too close or you could damage the vinyl).

  • Once the wax is softened, use the scraper to gently scrape it. Don't press too hard, you could damage the vinyl.

  • If there is a stain on the stain, put a small amount of isopropylic alcohol on a cloth, and rub the stain. Rotate the cloth on a clean area as the dye is transferred to it.

Ice Method

You'll need:

  • Ice

  • A plastic scraper, or an old credit card, or a plastic spoon

Steps to remove wax:

  • Rub an ice cube on the wax to harden. It is useful to hold the ice cube with a paper towel so that it is not cold on your fingers and so that the heat of your fingers does not melt it faster.

  • Once the wax is completely hardened, you can carefully remove it with a plastic scraper.

  • If there is a stain on the stain, put a small amount of isopropylic alcohol on a cloth, and rub the stain. Rotate the cloth on a clean area while the dye is transferred to it.

Additional Tips For Removing Wax From Vinyl Floor

  • If you use candles regularly, try to get candles that are not petroleum-based, as they tend to contain dyes that are more likely to stain if the wax spills.

  • If you don't have isopropylic alcohol, you can use vodka instead. Do not use rubbing alcohol as it contains additives, including dyes, that could stain or damage vinyl. A hand sanitizer containing alcohol may also be effective.
